Things to Know

Chapter 1: In this first chapter, we will explore psychology's historical roots and the early founders of what we call psychology today. We will also talk about what psychology is and what it is not, and we will analyze and discuss the main perspectives used by today's psychologists. If you are interested in the field of psychology, this chapter also explores the wide variety of careers one can choose. So, lets' get ready to learn about how psychology came to be what it is today, and we'll start our quest into understanding why we behave the way we do!

Chapter 2: we will take a look at a very important part of psychology - Research Methods. We will start the chapter by looking at how psychologist develop new knowledge through the use of the scientific method and psychological research. Then we will discuss how psychologists makes sense of the data they gather by learning how statistics are used in psychology. Finally, we will discuss the importance of ethics in research and experimentation. We will have activities for this chapter that involves developing and testing your own hypothesis and designing and testing an experiment (within ethical guidelines)

Learning: Chapter 6 - This section of the course introduces you to the differences between learned and unlearned behavior . The primary focus is exploration of different kinds of learning, including classical conditioning, operant conditioning, and observational learning . The biological bases of behavior illustrates predispositions for learning .
